900 Plan - What download speed should I expect?

Hi All. I am currently on the 900mb plan, and was wondering what sort of speeds I could expect both from a LAN and Wifi? For completeness I current seems to be getting 150 - 200 in various speed test over Wifi, and less with ethernet (but this is probably the cable). Strangely with Google Mesh I get much lower (50-80mb) but this might be something to do with that setup. Thanks in advance.

Hi There

Welcome to the forum

On Ethernet, you should be getting something along the lines of:

You should get around 900/900 on Gigabit ports from your google mesh

Can you run a speedtest directly from within the google mesh system? it sounds like maybe your ethernet is not running at gigabit speed, but Fast Ethernet (100mb), which would be a cable issue

Sounds like Google Mesh is slowing down your internet.

With the stock EX820V Router I can get full speeds on Wi-Fi with the 1.2 gig plan.

Safe to assume you are doing SpeedTests using a local server?

I’m on the 900 plan. here’s my results.

711mb on google mesh speed test. Note connecting direct to route gives the 200mb. Mesh is lower 50mb

Something seems wrong with the google mesh… that’s very odd, it should be at least 800mb/s. Do you have a Yayzi router? Or only the mesh?

Does it go Mesh master → ONT

Or

Mesh master → Yayzi router → ONT

Can you provide a photo of the setup at all?

Mesh - router - ONT

Try plug the mesh directly into the ONT

set the VLAN to 911, it should work without the router

Seems like trying to set VLAN to 911 may not be possible, on reading googles guide.

Google supports VLAN tag values of 2, 7, and 10 (from a possible range of 0 to 4095). If your ISP requires a different tag, your setup will require an additional device for it to work. To determine the proper tag required, check with your ISP or modem’s manual.

Use a VLAN-supported router

If you have a router already connected that supports VLAN tagging, you can add your Nest Wifi router or Google Wifi primary point to it.

  1. Connect your modem’s LAN port to the third-party router’s WAN port with an Ethernet cable.
  2. Connect the third-party router to the Nest Wifi router or primary Wifi point’s WAN port |autox18 with an Ethernet cable.
  3. When finished, set up your Nest Wifi or Google Wifi devices in the Google Home app.

With this configuration, you may run into Double NAT, which isn’t necessarily a problem. But if it is causing problems, it’s recommended to put your third-party router in bridge modeand turn off Wi-Fi on your third-party router to avoid interference.

You will need to check your Google Mesh settings. See if the firmware is upto date and if you have a VLAN ID setting for the wan connection, if so you can remove the HX220. Al

Speeds

I get 900/900 (+/- 20) on average as measured by my router.
speeds

Wifi, depends where located in relation to the Access Point if in the same room as AP 500-700, anything from
50 to 700 across the house.

On the base 900 plan you should expect speeds of around 940 down/up as that is the limit of gigabit ethernet with overheads.
If you’re on WiFi then you can usually allow for 10-20% less, depending on signal quality and distance from the router/mesh node.
I was getting 930-940 constantly with Vodafone using a TP-Link XE75 Pro mesh kit. I now get around 1200 around the house after upgrading to the 2GB package (that’s via the mesh as I think they are reaching their limit on what they can handle).
