Connected at last, ping times are a huge disappointment though

I don’t believe it’s down to city fibre as pings were 5/6ms on average on my previous isp (Giganet), anyway here’s the results from WinMTR

It certainly does help when people email in and we can look as individual connections. The forums can definitely get confusing :slightly_smiling_face:

Sorry to see you go!

Just emailed support with attachments that clearly show the issue.

1st hop is of course your Home Router, but that second hope is Layered Technologies Limited IP owned address.

That’ll be where Yayzi exits to connectivity providers, to the wider internet via Tier 1 carriers and other internet exchanges.

The issue is definitely between you and the 2nd hop. Of course you won’t see every hop because of how CityFibre and Yayzi’s network operates. Not sure if Yayzi’s network sits on top of Layered Technologies Limited backbone.

You could be going but not showing in the trace
Home → CityFibre → Layered Technologies Limited → Yayzi → Internet

Unless Yayzi uses Layered Technologies Limited to provide it’s CityFibre product, which would mean its
home → CityFibre → Layered Technologies Limited (on behalf of Yayzi) → Internet

It’s nice to discuss these things in the open as it may aid people discovering problems they didn’t know they had, but I do respect contacting support is better from Yayzi’s point of view.

That’s the problem I’m experiencing, It’s very hit and miss, some nights it can be ok’ish, other nights it’s unusable for gaming, just huge pings and packet loss during peak hours.

Unusable most of today, getting too laggy in games to play :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

My Broadband Ping - Yayzi

If we’re playing over the internet you may have to wait a while for my internet to catch up for my hand

We want to take a look at your line specially. Can you drop us an email?

my graph looks very similar to yours, this is yesterdays.

I’m pretty convinced it’s over capacity on the line again, this is exactly what happened last time, week by week it’ll get worse.

It won’t be overcapacity on Yayzi side as that would impact all. Maybe CF has overcapacity in your area tbh

Hence the reason why moving to XGS-PON is more and more important to help alleviate this.

It’s not just my area though, others on here are having similar issues and they’re not in my area.

There was also the example of the ex customer who went to another CF provider and posted his Yayzi and his new CF provider graphs and they were chalk and cheese graphs using the same line just a different provider.

Depends where the problem is. Not sure if Yayzi uses CityFibre national access for their backbone all the way back to their LNS or if they use another CityFibre backbone provider via local access.

So changing ISP, can definitely make a difference depending on the backbone type and provider. For example Vodafone use their own backbone using local access, where as AAISP, use CityFibre’s own National Access backbone all the way to their LNS location.

The issue may not be the local PON.

CF provide these two PDF’s which explain the National vs Local

I’m still waiting to hear from support about that, apparently they put in the request to move me to their 2.5 gig pro package, I’ve no idea how long it’s supposed to take.

I wouldn’t hold too much hope on this. I’m pretty sure that none of the exchanges in WsM have been upgraded to XGS-PON yet.

Strange as the city fibre checker even lists symmetrical speeds upto 2.3gbps are available for my postcode, same as the checker on the yayzi site.

Hmmm. I’m in Weston Village BS24, whereabouts in WsM are you? I only see the 2Gig Pro+ option on the Yayzi checker.

I’m BS22 near to sainsburys in Worle. The 2 gig pro package was the highest available when I signed up on the 16th September, now the 2.5 gig pro packable is avaliable according to the checker.

Have you dropped us an email? I haven’t seen anything come in yet
