High Latency NE5

Hi guys, I’ve only recently switched to Yayzi on Tuesday, and ever since I’ve been having issues with high lag spikes intermittently throughout the day. Most often happens in the evening around 6pm-12am, but I’ve realised today on a Saturday the ping spikes incredibly high throughout the day.

I’ve been impressed with the download/upload speeds, but honestly as gaming is my main use of the internet it’s quite unusable. Ping spikes up to 1800 in Valorant, lasting for a few minutes at a time, is incredibly frustrating.

Anyone having similar issues in that area? Or any advice for settings that I need to change on the router? For reference, I’m using a wired connection using a 2.5g switch, 2.5g ports on each PC connected to the network. No downloads going on at the time of the spikes.

It’s there anything on the router, qos, multicast etc
Is your switch keeping up with the packets coming into it?
Anything going of on the network at that time during the day?
What MTU are you using ?
Have you tried taking your switch out the equation or carried out any other troubleshooting?

Hey thanks for taking the time to respond and help me, much appreciated.

I’m using the router provided by Yayzi on default settings, so I haven’t changed any QoS/Multicast settings etc.
At the time of the issues, only thing going on in the network is two people playing the same online multiplayer games.

I’m very much a novice when it comes to networking/ISP stuff, but I’ve been using some google-fu to understand different things.

MTU - 1500

I’ve ordered a longer network cable to see if going directly through the router rather that router —> switch —> end device, so I’d try that once it gets here.

The only thing I’m not sure how to check/troubleshoot is how to see if my switch is keeping up with the packets coming into it?

For reference, This is the switch I’m using https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08SWPLGXF?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title.

Thats a network interface card not a switch per say, although technically is a switch  Have you posted the correct link?

Thats embarrassing  I’ve put in the wrong link. I’ve ordered that network adapter because I’ve discovered that many users have reported issues with the build in network port on my motherboard (apparently some versions of the Intel Ethernet Controller (2) I225-V on my B550 board are affected) so I’m seeing if a new interface card changes anything.

This is the actual switch I’m using https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08SWPLGXF?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title.

I use that network adapter myself as an extra interface on a server and it’s capable up to around 2.3Gbps

In regards the switch, yes it’ll be more than capable for gaming. It will match the network adapter you’ve purchased.

Although neither will fix the latency to your router. Its either a line issue or something on the router itself, if you haven’t changed anything from default on the router then you can try

  1. A different router, it’ll need to support vlan tagging on the wan interface
    Something like this

If if makes no difference just send it back to Amazon within 30 days for a refund.

  1. Raise a support ticket to [email protected] and ask them to investigate.

@Yayzi_Team sometimes reply on the forums.

Just an fyi, your IP address is in your Think Broadband image. Some folk are not fussed its visible, just making you aware.

I’ve raised a support ticket already, thanks for the heads up with the router. I’d give that a go if there’s no success with Yayzi support, essentially I just need them to confirm that there’s no issues on my line, and that the issues are with my network at home. I’m not fussed, but no point in leaving it out there so I’ve edited it.

Thanks again Lee!
