My house is a WiFi nightmare

Hi all posted a few months back and got a few suggestions, I used a tp_link extender and it’s gave a stable connection around 350 up and down. So today I bought the linksys Hydro Pro 6 I’m thinking of using this in a mesh with the yayzi router, would this work better than the extender.Or as someone has done use an extension cable for the ONT. ?

You certainly can use a fibre extension Cable, if you need or want to relocate your ONT, I know this is not the easiest thing to do or may not even be possible due to renting et cetera however getting an ethernet cable run to at least one in every room is the best you can do to achieve top speed on all your wired devices

Even with best scenario Wi-Fi, seven, you will Almost never achieve the full 2.3 gig per second

Can you post here the layout of your house (including all floors)? It may help with deciding where to put the wireless access point and if required mesh/extenders

Sure, but it’s only 4 rooms

It’s an L shape, master bedroom at the front, with an access point in it

Long corridor to the living room (access point is in the loft above the living room). This covers the corridor, living room and kitchen area, a little bit of the outside garden too

I don’t have any house plan software but ubiquiti has one that’ll show you where best to place their APs

Draw it and take a photo :slightly_smiling_face: wall thickness and what they are made of makes a difference to.

I find for the average size house in the uk that mesh wifi just isn’t worth it, certainly wasn’t for me when using two Asus routers. I’ve never had any issues with covering the whole house with just one router & I’m in a 4 bedroom house. Currently using an Asus GT-AXE16000 as a main & the old RT-AX88U as a repeater to push a good signal to the garden for the ring cameras I have out there.

WiFi analyser and surveyor by manageengine not sure if they do an iOS version.

You can use your phone to do a WiFi survey, upload a floor plan and walk around.
Not Ecahau but it might help

I’ve got my PC at the back left of the house so had my ONT there for a wired connection. Front of house has little to no signal (it’s only 2 floors but is wide and over 200m2, 120m2 ground floor). In the end I ran a cable from the router around the house and up to the front right bedroom. I plugged in my old Asus router and use it in AP mode. It’s been rock solid for years with my old ISP and now with Yayzi. I connect my devices to whichever is best and our phones just drop and pick up whichever is best as we move around the house or front, side, back garden. I did similar in our old house which was smaller but the same issues as cable was in the back extension and all internal walls were brick.

Sorry been away for a few days, I can do that later. Been going around my house with a metal detector and it’s full of lead (fml).
