In Progress
Over the next few nights we will be working with CityFibre to add more capacity.
Can someone please quantify what “next few nights” entails, as the evening disruption feels like it’s been going on for quite a long time now. Basically post-kids bedtime internet is just not usable, and just as it starts working around 11:30 it’s time for bed for work the next day.
I’ve tried popping onto Discord to ask and there’s been similar questions from a couple of other users too but no answer.
Packet loss and ping spikes, occasionally complete drops (never more than 10-15 seconds, but sometimes multiple per maintenance window).
If I’m watching twitch while playing then both the stream and the game will stutter or drop. Discord cuts out or suffers a quality drop. Websites will be slow to open or unresponsive. The wife’s Tv will cut out etc.
This is just during the evening upgrade window. Rest of the day it’s spot on.
I’ve noticed small outages and higher than normal pings the past few days, nothing that would normally cause major problems but they’re noticeable when gaming.
Specifically 6.30pm and 12am on this graph. I have also noticed the yellow spikes are getting more frequent and higher over the past few weeks. This is pretty much how the over port capacity started a few months ago, I know Liam said that their ports are not utilised fully yet, but I’m just reporting what I’m seeing.
Hopefully it’s something and nothing and will resolve itself in a few days.
Just as a comparison, here’s a graph from a month ago -
I have seen small amounts of packet loss while gaming last couple of nights. Low but there. May have started sooner but have been away so only been gaming again recently.
Yeah, I haven’t seen this sort of stuff for a good while now so something going on somewhere. Luckily, it’s only very minor at the moment but these things have a habit of getting worse over time if left unabated.
