Hi all as the title says I’m on the 1.2Gig Pro+ package but I’ve never got over 920Mbps on a wired Ethernet connection I’m using a cat 8 Ethernet cable also tried cat 7 Ethernet cable and still nothing more than 920Mbps. I’m using the Yayzi provided router Qos is not enabled on the router settings I’ve closed all VPN applications totally and disabled firewalls and still can’t get anything more in speed I’m doing the test on a computer with a 2.5Gbps connection card and also made sure it’s configured to handle the max speed up to 2.5Gbps on the settings so I’m at a loss. Anyone else faced this issue or any ideas ?
How are you testing the speeds? Some services will be slower than others
Hey there welcome!
What speedtest site are you using?
Give the following a try:
You might also find that Desktop apps give the best results with less overhead
Can you also confirm that you are seeing a link speed on the network adapter for 2.5G? If not make sure you are plugged into LAN 4
Love the drawing Nigel! Very artistic
Or not? lol
Anyway what’s LAN 4 ? Besides a network port I mean lol
Or if you are using Speedtest.net, use the ‘Community Fiber London’ server as that can handle the speed.
Its just the 4th LAN port on the Yayzi Router. WAN and LAN4 are the only 2.5G ports. I think.
Firstly welcome to the forum:
When anyone mentions they’re using a CAT 8 cable I always laugh to myself as 99.99% of the time these advertised CAT 8/7 cables you see on Amazon are actually just badly made CAT 5 / CAT 5e cables - However, I doubt that’s the cause of the problem as they will still work.
I don’t have any 2.5g capable kit (yet) but on WiFi on my iPhone 15 Pro Max I can hit 1.2gig speeds no problem from picking a local server that’s 22 miles away from me on Speedtest . net.
Lets run down of things to check:
- I would email Yayzi’s support and ask them to confirm that you have the 1.2gig profile
- Do you know what model ONT was installed (I know some ONT’s only come with a gigabit ethernet - however you should have one that has a 2.5 gig port)
- As WhyAydan mentioned - port LAN4 (next to the WAN) on the TP LINK Ex820v is the 2.5gig port on the router. In the router’s GUI it will also show you the transmission link speed so you can verify it’s at the right speed.
- You could give the router a reset and re-set it back up again - I did this quite a lot experimenting with different settings and features whilst testing out the TP Link router.
- We’ve seen a lot of times people say they have 2.5 gig ethernet installed in their machines, and then it turns out to be a Windows driver issue or a network setting buried in the system that’s throttling the speed. Not saying it’s that - but certainly one to double check and verify.
What do you mean! Amazon sold me CAT10 the other day!
Came with a butler that runs my bath.
Thanks I wasn’t aware of the Lan 4 port being the only 2.5Gbps port swapped it over and now getting 1220Mbps download. My error thanks for everyone’s reply’s
You are very welcome, enjoy your Yayzi service
Awesome news.
Yeah, it does happen
Glad to see you are now getting the speed you want!
Could you mark that reply as the solution in case anyone else gets this crop up?
Might be worth getting a simple 2.5GB switch so you can make full use of the speeds!
yes no problem
Enjoy your service! Feel free to drop by if you have any further quetions
Amazing - glad it was something simple! Enjoy the full speed!
I’m holding out for CAT11 - CAT 10 doesn’t provide enough radioactive shielding for the nuclear power plant I’m planning to power my router from.
Ah I see, recon CAT12 might actually be better for that!
CAT15 is where it’s gonna be at, it’s rumoured to carry 100gb/s via copper
Yeh it’s called fibre
Get your crystal balls out guys, servers and network, media servers great yes but what else do we think will need a “super fast”( as the isp’s call it) connection?
