OpnSense Vlan VS Pfsense

Hello all,

Was wondering if anyone has any good experience with OpnSense.

Not sure if this is an OS level issue or something I can make a ticket for basically, I have been using a Pfsense router which was running perfectly. 2.3g up and down. Recently after a Pfsense update, the router wouldn’t post and I couldn’t go back to a stable enough Kernel.

So I decided to try give OpnSense a try. Rebuilt the machine and installed Opnsense, installed the intel driver for the PCIe NIC I have so that it can use the 2.5g capability. (LAN is set to 2500-t or whatever the setting is) so the device is capable of 2.5g.

But after setting up the VLAN etc I’ve noticed that I’m capping out just below 100mb/s up and down. I’ve tweaked all the settings I can think of including VLan priority and even re-creating the VLan. Tried priorities 0-7 and the highest speed I’ve gotten is like 90mb/s ,so just below 100mb/s.

The cable connected from the OMNI box is sufficient as it was working previously with PFsense etc. Only difference I’ve seen is that my NIC for WAN is only blinking green with no orange indicator in sight.

Bearing in mind the NIC is a PCIe extension which I know works as it did with Pfsense and it does detect the 2.5 gig option on LAN and WAN (when not using the Vlan)

WAN = re1 (re1)vlan911 in this case
LAN = re0

If I set the WAN to just re1 without a VLAN, I can set the speed and duplex, but obviously the DHCP would then fail to grab an IP etc… but when I set the WAN to to VLAN, I can’t control the speed and then I hit the ~100mb/s cap.

Happy to answer questions just hard to put a lot of the information here but can be given on request.

What we thinking, OS/Hardware issue or Yayzi side? TIA
