My friend on BT 900Mbps can download from steam at a steady 940Mpbs all day and night.
My Steam download speed is up and down like a yoyo.
Whats the issue here? I have tried changing the download location between London and Manchester but there is no diff in speeds
It depends on the game that you are downloading. If the game is highly compressed (e.g it downloads 20GB but takes up 60-70GB) and your CPU and/or storage gets maxed out, the download is going to slow down as it can’t write the data fast enough.
I have the same as your above graph on my spare PC as it’s simply not fast enough while downloading some games, however my main gaming PC can download everything at a solid 250MB/s

My 9700X is fast enough im sure. Me and my friend was downloading the same game.
Check CPU usage while downloading, see if it maxes out. What kind of storage are you saving it to, HDD, Sata SSD or NVME drive?
CPU was at about 15% usage.
I have 2 SSD’s one is Gen 3 and the other Gen 4. Both nvme
Just started to dowload this, I think It’s doing OK. Hovering around 800mbps mark any my disk is hitting 1gbps. Whilst this is nowhere near the max speed for my Mac Mini M2 Pro drive, I feel I am somewhat limited by steam rather than the network as the Peak i see is 1.1Gbps. (On this test, I was using Manchester.)
Downloaded CS2, hovers around the same on London Server

Sadly, I get slower. Steam used to be ok when I first joined and then as the weeks went on it got slower and slower.
What game is that, I will try that one. What server are you using too
