Asus routers not matching pre-migration speeds

During a support session yesterday, it was mentioned to me that Yayzi are aware of a number of customers with Asus routers that are not getting the same speeds now as they were pre-migration.

I have an Asus ET12 router on the 2Gig Pro package. I am fully wired on 2.5Gbps ethernet. QoS is not enabled on my router, nothing else whatsoever has changed within my environment.

Pre-migration I was getting SpeedTest results regularly just above the 2000Mbps mark, with upload around 980Mbps. Since migration every SpeedTest result I get download averages between 1500-1600Mbps tops and no more. This obviously falls short of the 1.9Gbps wired speed guarantee for my package.

I just want @Yayzi_Team to acknowledge there’s an issue with Asus routers connecting to their lovely new hardware, and get some kind of update as to what the problem might be and projected fix timescale, especially given the forthcoming change freeze. I have had Yayzi support connect to my PC to verify this issue exists for themselves.

Sorry for the long post, but I don’t particularly like being gaslighted into thinking it must be a problem on my side - I’ve been in IT / software development for 30 years so when I say nothing has changed within my environment then trust me I’ve checked it all over several times. With the Christmas holidays starting in just a few days, we’ll have 4 of us in the house streaming, downloading, gaming, etc all day - and as small a difference as it may seem - 500Mbps - it will be noticed here.

Just adding that I’ve tried rebooting my ONT, and like others - it’s made no difference whatsoever.

How many speed test servers have you tried and also have you done it on the built router speed test if it has one?

They believe it is to do with the firmware on the router as per the discussion last night over on the Discord,

I’m sure the team will jump in to check Whether this is the case or not, But it seems like a recent firmware update as of December just have to coincide with the migration.

If you’re able to please directly plug in your PC to the ONT and doublecheck the speeds that your PC receives

You will have to set up your network card to receive the VLAN 911

Yes, that sounds likely. I updated the firmware on 8th Nov to this one:

Not in a position to plug directly into the ONT at the moment but will try and get my laptop charged up and try it later tonight when everyone is in bed.

Hey @mikekilley,

I also use an ASUS ET12 and I’m on 2.3 up and down, with the same firmware - however I do not have the same issues:

Asus GT-AXE16000 user here and I’ve had speed tests maxing out my 2 gig pro package post migration while using the speed test site or app on my desktop, using the speed test built into the router though that’s always maxed out around the 1500Mbps download, only tried a few different servers on that though. I’m using the custom asuswrt merlin firmware.

very strange one same as you everything was working fine until the change my router is asus GT-BE98 all upto date firmware after this change speed drop cannot get over 1500mbps m ark

@omar I also have the Asus gt-be98 with the latest firmware and have no speed test issues of any kind.

what ip range are you on

213.18.200.x, but I’m hoping :crossed_fingers: that I’ll get my 141.11.200.x static IP back tomorrow.

213 but emailed to get my 141 back.

Ok, so here’s something for @Yayzi_Team to mull over… I’ve just downgraded back to the previous firmware version (3.0.0.4.388_24585 released 27/09/2024):

and now I’m getting:

…exactly the same speed reduction as before. Won’t go much above 1500Mbps. So I maintain my original position that nothing in my environment has changed. But what is causing this reduction when @Frostie36 is no more than a mile or two away from me and getting no reduction?

Can I at least please get acknowledgment that there is a problem, even if its just with my own connection, and that its being looked into? I’m even fairly confident that whatever is causing this for me is also causing the same for @omar.

Have you tried to connect the provided router and run a speedtest from it instead. This is an essential troubleshppting step to tell whether Asus router is at play here.

If you’re having an issue, please try the provided router (if you have one) or directly connect to the ONT if possible to test the speed, don’t forget to set VLAN 911 on the network adapter settings

Isn’t the 2gig Pro a GPON service? perhaps it’s related to that. I’m on XGS-PON 2.3gig and my Asus BE98 gets full speeds via router Speed Test.

I also have no issues with full 2.3gig speeds via Asus BE98.it seems like a lower package problem. Might be the ONT?

Could be because when I try connecting to the Ont last night couldn’t get a connection

I’m trying to make sense of it because it was working fine before the new network move
