Best Mesh system for EX820V router

Hi Everyone,

First time post. Apologies if this is in the wrong place.

TL;DR: what’s the best AX6000 mesh system that’s compatible with the TP Link Ex820V router supplied by Yayzi?

Long version:

I’m about to switch to Yayzi from Giganet as Yayzi offer 2gb broadband as opposed to the 1gb from Giganet.

I never used the supplied Eero router from Giganet as I have a tplink M4 (v2 - grrr) mesh setup. My home m4 unit is configured with the creds for the Giganet connection.

I’m excited about the EX820V router. The 2.5gb wired and WiFi 6E is of great value to me, but…

The EX820V supports easmesh and onemesh, not the deco standard. So I don’t think I can create a single mesh with the EX820V as the home unit.

This isn’t a super big deal as the M4s are limited to AX1200 anyway.

But I’m lost as to what extenders I can get for the EX. It seems TPlink don’t have any other AX6000 extenders. I can “live with” (first world problems) an AX5400 as I won’t notice the speed and important stuff will be wired in at 2.5gb.

It seems like the best one to get is the RE815XE:

But I’m not sure. I’ve seen that I can’t just take a second AX6000 router and put it as a repeater / extender (saw the forum post here and the OneMesh standard doesn’t like this)…

So is this the best option? Note I’m not able to use extenders over power lines, so this is ruled out I’m afraid!

Or - do I just keep the EV supplied router as an AP and create my own mesh (probably with better Deco units) that sits behind it.

Or - can I simply not use the supplied router and connect directly into the CityFibre connection with my own setup, like I’m currently doing for Giganet?

This last option seems a waste, as the router looks really good. But I do somewhat value the privacy of the system not being remote accessed / managed by my ISP.

HOPEFULLY this makes sense. Happy to clarify any questions. I would really appreciate advice from other users and or the team.

Thanks

Alex

Use that and use one mesh to connect it :+1:

This is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you!

So I could do that for some of the locations, but I’m not super comfortable drilling / running cable everywhere. Especially if I can get close to 2gb wireless.

No worries I use it via one mesh to run my CCTV and upstairs devices it gives me about 600-800Mbps which is fine for what I need to use it for just to clarify I’m on the 1.2 GB package

The EX820V is wifi 6, not 6E, so it seems pointless going for anything 6E like the extender you linked. I have https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0B649T4TZ and it works fine.

Am I correct in saying that only has 1gb ports? If so it won’t be any good if you want to hardwire and try and get 2gb speeds. You need a router with 2.5gb WAN and 2.5gb LAN.

That’s a valid point. I was more concerned with getting the better WiFi speeds (closer to 6gbps). I was concerned that the slower rated repeaters would slow the network / slow the connections for devices on those APs.

Am I over thinking?

Correct. But there’s only one machine that needs to be wired in (gaming pc). The rest can connect wirelessly or (if close to a hub) via Ethernet.

Thats correct but nothing connected to the upstairs one pulls more than a 1gbps so didn’t see the point in having 2.5gbps ports just for show when nothing can use them :+1::grin:

@Yayzi_Team :
Does the current EX820v firmware support Ethernet Backhaul?

Also has any testing done with Easynet mesh on the Ex820v?

Maybe, an option to offer additional units for purchase to customers?

We already do  but we will advertise them more soon

Makes for an interesting option Wifi 6 MESH / AP with 2.5gbps port for wired ethernet backhaul for <£150.

Hopefully @Yayzi_Team can get a good price on these for their customers.

It does seem like it. there’s barely a difference in price from 6E to 7

Sorry to resurrect an old post but does the EX820V definitely support onemesh?

I have purchased a mesh extender that supports onemesh but can’t now only see an option for easymesh in the router settings and the extender has set up with a second network with EXT on the end.

I assume you meant EX820v, here is the spec sheet from TP-link: EX820v | AX6000 Dual Band Wi-Fi 6 VoIP Router | TP-Link United Kingdom

It’s easymesh compatible, not onemesh. They are two different standards coming from TP-Link, onemesh is the older standard. They are not compatible with each other.

Can anyone suggest where I might be able to get an easymesh extender?

Turns out the one I ordered from amazon was advertised as Easymesh - the Re500x but when it arrived it was onemesh. I believe there is a V1 and V2. Amazon sent a replacement but it was the V1 again. I’m struggling to find a stockist with the V2 easymesh model.

I’d complain to Amazon again and get them to send you the right one as the pictures clearly show “EasyMesh compatible”. We got the Re700x version and it’s worked fine out of the box with EasyMesh.

Yeah, I’ve been back and forth with them but they seem incapable of ensuring the correct product is sent. They ae refunding me and allowing me to keep the replacement but I still need the correct product.

Yeah, that’s frustrating and they should at the very least change the listing as it’s false advertising.

If you can stomach the slightly higher price, then with the re700x you don’t have the version worry as there’s only been one of them so far and it is easymesh compatible.

This is tp-link’s page on EasyMesh compatible products which might help find one to suit you: TP-Link EasyMesh Devices
